Professional deliverable outputs

From Site Assessment to Professional Deliverables

A structured 5-day programme — real flights, real GCPs, real processing, real outputs

Day 01

Site Assessment & Survey Planning

  • What makes a good survey site: terrain, restrictions, access
  • Understanding coordinate systems: WGS84, UTM zones, and local datums
  • Flight planning parameters: overlap, GSD, altitude, and accuracy trade-offs
  • Introduction to DJI Terra and DJI Pilot 2 for mission planning
  • DGCA regulations for survey operations in India
Day 02

GCP Placement & Autonomous Missions

  • Why Ground Control Points matter: georeferencing accuracy explained
  • GCP design, placement strategy, and measurement with GNSS RTK
  • Setting up autonomous missions in DJI Terra (2D grid, 3D oblique, façade)
  • Safety checks, geofencing, and return-to-home configuration
  • Mission execution — supervised real-world practice flight
Day 03

On-Field Data Collection

  • Full survey operation: flight planning to landing
  • Capturing images for photogrammetry: nadir + oblique coverage
  • LiDAR integration basics — when and why to use LiDAR vs camera
  • Battery management, data offload, and image QC on-site
  • Documentation: flight logs, GCP records, weather conditions
Day 04

Photogrammetry Processing: Pix4D & Agisoft

  • Data import and project setup in Pix4D Mapper and Agisoft Metashape
  • Image alignment, sparse point cloud, and quality report interpretation
  • GCP marking and optimisation — understanding RMS error
  • Dense point cloud generation and mesh creation
  • Orthomosaic and DSM export: formats, resolution, coordinate systems
Day 05

Outputs, Reporting & Career Paths

  • Generating deliverables: orthomosaic, DSM, DTM, contour lines, point cloud
  • Volume calculation and stockpile measurement
  • Final reporting: what to hand over to a civil engineer or GIS team
  • Career paths: survey companies, GIS firms, government agencies, freelancing
  • Pricing your services: project-based and per-acre models
  • Final assessment and certificate distribution
You leave with: Industry-ready survey outputs + Aerial Survey Completion Certificate

Built for Professionals & Ambitious Pilots

This course is designed for those who want to produce real survey deliverables — not just fly drones

01

Civil Engineers & Surveyors

Seeking to add drone-based data collection to their practice. Replace traditional survey methods with faster, more cost-effective aerial data.

02

GIS & Remote Sensing Professionals

Looking to process aerial data from their own flights. Take full ownership of the data pipeline — from mission to final GIS deliverable.

03

Fresh Pilots

Who want to move beyond recreational flying into revenue-generating survey work. Survey is one of the highest-paying drone verticals in India.

04

Entrepreneurs & Startups

Building drone data services for agriculture, infrastructure, or real estate. Learn the full workflow before hiring or scaling your team.

Common Questions Answered

Everything you need to know before enrolling

Do I need a DGCA licence to join this course?

No licence is required to attend. DroneAcad provides all equipment and a licensed pilot supervises all outdoor flights. However, we recommend combining this course with the DGCA RPTO programme if you plan to operate commercially.

What software will we use?

Pix4D Mapper and Agisoft Metashape. Both are industry-standard photogrammetry platforms used by survey firms, government agencies, and engineering consultants worldwide.

What accuracy can I achieve with a drone survey?

With proper GCPs and an RTK-capable drone, horizontal accuracy of 2–5 cm and vertical accuracy of 3–8 cm is achievable. Without GCPs, absolute accuracy drops to 1–3 metres, depending on GNSS quality.

Is there job demand for drone survey pilots in India?

Yes. Infrastructure growth under PMGSY, Smart Cities Mission, and state highway projects is driving significant demand for drone survey data. Salaries range from ₹4–12 LPA for employed roles; project-based freelancers earn ₹500–1,500 per acre.

Can this course count toward the 6-Month Diploma?

Yes. Aerial Survey & Mapping is Module 5 of the Diploma. Completing this standalone course gives you advanced standing and credit if you join the Diploma programme.
